PTO Program and Chairperson Descriptions

Learn more about the programs, events and volunteer opportunities supported by VPE PTO. Each position helps provide meaningful experiences and support for our students, staff and families.

Student Enrichment

Auction/Trivia Night

The Auction Chair is responsible for planning and managing this biennial event. This popular, adults-only event takes place every other spring in even-numbered years and is one of the PTO's top fundraisers. Duties include soliciting auction item donations, reserving the venue, ordering catering, promoting the event, selling tickets and more.

Book Fair

The Book Fair Coordinator works with Scholastic to bring the Book Fair to VPE. The Coordinator oversees all aspects of the event, including setting dates, promoting the event, coordinating volunteers and managing the Book Fair.

Carnival

The Carnival Coordinator plans and manages the annual all-school carnival. The event is typically held in the fall and provides a fun opportunity for students and families to come together. The Coordinator works with PTO volunteers and vendors to make the event a success.

Panther Book Club

The Panther Book Club Coordinator organizes and runs the student book club for students in grades 3-5. Duties include ordering books, setting dates, coordinating parent volunteers and facilitating meetings as needed. Parent volunteers host and moderate the student discussion groups.

Chess Club

The Chess Club Coordinator organizes and runs after-school chess lessons for students in grades 3-5.

Community Service

The Community Service Coordinator works to provide community service opportunities for VPE students, families and staff throughout the school year.

Family Fun Events

Family Fun events provide an inexpensive or free opportunity for families in our community to connect through a variety of activities. The Coordinator plans and manages these events. Past events have included movie nights, skate parties, art-at-home kits and more.

Field Day

The Field Day Coordinator works with the PE teacher to plan and manage Field Day activities in May for all students.

Fifth Grade Celebration

The Fifth Grade Celebration Coordinator works with a team of fifth grade parent volunteers to plan a memorable send-off for our fifth grade students.

FIRST LEGO League

FIRST LEGO League Explore introduces students to science, technology and engineering through hands-on, team-based activities. Students work in teams of up to six. This after-school program is open to students in kindergarten through fourth grade, ages 5-10.

Eligibility requirements are subject to current FIRST LEGO League regulations.

Restaurant Nights

The Restaurant Nights Coordinator schedules and promotes restaurant fundraising events throughout the school year.

Room Parents

The Room Parent Coordinator works with PTO Board members and VPE faculty to identify opportunities for parents to get involved at school. The Coordinator recruits, trains and supports parent volunteers who serve as room parents and acts as a liaison among room parents, the PTO and VPE faculty.

Skate Parties

The Skate Party Coordinator plans and promotes PTO-sponsored skating events throughout the school year. Duties include coordinating with the skating venue, promoting the events, managing registration and coordinating volunteers.

School Supplies

The School Supplies Coordinator works with an outside vendor to organize school supply presales for the following school year. The Coordinator also manages the distribution of supply kits at the beginning of the school year.

Spirit Wear

The Spirit Wear Coordinator works with vendors to provide quality spirit wear items to the VPE community. The Coordinator promotes and manages the sale and distribution of spirit wear throughout the year.

Sweetheart Dance

The Sweetheart Dance Coordinator plans and manages this special event for VPE students and their families. Duties include coordinating the venue and activities, promoting the event, managing registration and coordinating volunteers.

Staff Appreciation

The Staff Appreciation Coordinator helps show VPE staff how much we value and appreciate their work. Duties may include organizing catered lunches, welcome-back events, thank-you notes and other activities throughout the school year.

Summer Reading Program

The Summer Reading Coordinator promotes the Summer Reading Program, which encourages students to continue reading over the summer. The Coordinator collects reading logs, prints certificates and distributes prizes in the fall.

Website and Communications

The Website and Communications Coordinator maintains the PTO website and content management system. The Coordinator works with PTO Board members to gather and share PTO news and information with the VPE community.

Yearbook

The Yearbook Coordinator collects pictures from teachers and parents throughout the year, designs the school yearbook and sends it to the printer. The Coordinator also promotes yearbook sales and coordinates distribution at the end of the school year.
