VPE FIRST LEGO League
Basic Information
PTO is excited to bring back another year of FIRST LEGO League teams to VPE for the 2026-2027 school year!
FIRST LEGO League Explore is an after-school program designed to inspire and excite students through hands-on LEGO building and challenges. Students work in teams of up to six while developing skills in science, technology, engineering, teamwork, problem-solving, and design.
Explore program participants will:
- Learn the benefits of teamwork.
- Develop an interest in science and technology.
- Learn basic design skills through hands-on LEGO building.
- Share ideas and learn from others.
Registration Fee
The registration fee is per student:
- $20 for PTO members
- $30 for nonmembers
The registration fee helps cover kit costs and team shirts.

Eligibility
FIRST LEGO League Explore is open to students in kindergarten through fourth grade, ages 5 through 10.*
Students who join FIRST LEGO League must be able to attend all team meetings and their team's spring showcase event.
*Age eligibility: Per FIRST LEGO League regulations, students who turn age 11 during the 2026-2027 school year (August 2026-May 2027) are not eligible to join the Explore team.
2026-2027 Meeting and Showcase Dates
Meeting Schedule
Teams will meet one to two times per month on Mondays, immediately after school from 3:35 to 4:30 p.m. in the VPE Library.
2026-2027 meeting dates:
- September 14 and 28 (September 14 will be the introduction and parent meeting)
- October 19 and 26
- November 2 and 16
- December 7
- January 11 and 25
- February 8 and 22
- March 8
- April 5 and 26
- May 10
Meeting dates may be adjusted or canceled due to school closures or lack of volunteers.
Showcase Event Dates
Each team will participate in one showcase event during the spring.
Showcase events are typically held in March, April, or May at a nearby school or community center. Each team will select one available showcase date. 2026-2027 showcase dates: Coming soon. The actual event date will be selected later in the school year.
Parent Coaches Needed
Each FIRST LEGO League team must have two dedicated parent coaches who will lead and mentor the team throughout the program. Teams will only be formed based on the number of parents who commit to coaching.

Coaches must pass a FIRST Kansas City background check to participate.
Important Notes
- Students will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Teams will only be formed when two parent coaches have committed to each team.
- Students must be able to attend all team meetings and their team's spring showcase event.
- Meeting dates may change because of school closures or volunteer availability.
