About

Panther Book Club is VPE's book club for students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade. The program gives students an opportunity to read four grade-appropriate books outside of the classroom and discuss the books with their peers.

 

PTO will check out copies of the books to the first 25 students who register for the program.

Before each meeting, participants will read their books at home and then attend a discussion group with their peers after school. A parent volunteer will facilitate each discussion. Students are encouraged to bring a nut-safe snack to meetings. See the 2026-2027 Blue Valley Nut-Safer Snack List for approved snack options.

2026-2027 Meeting Dates

The 2026-2027 Panther Book Club will meet from 3:45-4:15 p.m. in the VPE Library. Meeting dates may be adjusted or canceled due to school closures or a lack of volunteers.

Pickup Patrol

Be sure to change your child's pickup instructions for the day of the club using Pickup Patrol.

  1. Select "Other" from the drop-down menu.
  2. In the "More Info" field, type "Panther Book Club."
  3. Click "Submit" when you are finished.

Please make these changes before 3 p.m. on the day of the club meeting.

Car/Bus Riders and Y-Care

  • Students who are normally car riders or bus riders must be picked up from school at 4:15 p.m.
  • There is no bus service for Book Club participants.
  • A parent volunteer will walk students to the car loop to meet you at 4:15 p.m.
  • Students who attend Y-Care will be escorted to the Y-Care staff after the meeting.

Volunteers Needed

  • Volunteers will facilitate book discussions with groups of six to eight students.
  • We recommend that you read the book or at least be familiar with it.
  • Volunteers will receive a list of discussion questions at the beginning of the meeting.
  • Sharing and talking about a common book is a great way to connect with your child and other students at Valley Park.
  • Choose to volunteer at one meeting or all four. Indicate your availability on the registration form.
  • If we do not have enough volunteers to facilitate the discussions, we may have to cancel or postpone a meeting.
