PTO Program/Chairperson Descriptions

Staff & Student Services Family Fun Ways & Means Student Enrichment

AUCTION

The Auction Chair is responsible for planning and managing this biennial event. This popular, kid-free, event occurs every other spring (even years) and is one PTO's top fundraisers. Duties include soliciting donations of auction items, reserving the venue, ordering catering, promote attendance, selling tickets, etc.

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION

The BTFE Coordinator is responsible for promoting, collecting, and submitting Box Tops for the purposes of raising funds for PTO. Clipped Box Tops must be mailed in twice per year (November & March).

Book Fair

The Book Fair Coordinator is responsible for working with Scholastic to bring the always popular Book Fair to VPE.  The Coordinator will be responsible for all aspects of organizing the Book Fair - from setting the dates, promoting the events, coordinating volunteers, and operating the event.

Carnival

The Carnival Coordinator is responsible for planning and operating our annual all school carnival. This event is usually held in the fall and sets the tone for all our amazing & fun PTO activities throughout the year. This popular event is always well-attended and well-staffed by our awesome family volunteers. 

CHAT-N-CHEW

The Chat-n-Chew Coordinator is responsible for organizing and running our student book club for students in grades 3-5. Duties include ordering books, setting dates, coordinating parent volunteers, and facilitating the Chat-n-Chew meetings as needed. Parent volunteers will host & moderate the student discussion groups. 

CHESS CLUB

The Chess Club Coordinator is responsible for running after-school lessons for students in grades 3-5. 

Chinese Immersion Liaison

The Chinese Immersion Liaison is responsible for bringing awareness to the Chinese Immersion Program and maintaining communication between families, schools, and the District in all related matters. The Liaison also coordinates the annual school-wide Lunar New Year Celebration, in additional to other culturally significant events. 

COMMUNITY SERVICE

The Community Service Coordinator works to implement various community service opportunities for VPE students, parents, and staff throughout the school year. 

Family Fun Events

Family Fun events provide an inexpensive, and often FREE, opportunity for family members in our community to interact through various activities. The Coordinator is responsible for planning and implementing these events. Past events have included movie nights, skate parties, art at home kits, and more! 

Field Day

The Field Day Coordinator works with the PE Teacher to plan and manage Field Day activities in May for all students.

Fifth Grade Celebration

The 5th Grade Celebration Coordinator works with a team of 5th grade parent volunteers to plan a memorable send-off for our graduating 5th graders!

FIRST LEGO LEAGUE

FIRST LEGO League Explore is designed to inspire, excite and introduce kids to the wonders of science, technology and engineering. Students will work in a team of up to 6 kids. This after-school program will be open to students in Kindergarten through 4th grade, ages 5 thru 10*.

* per FLL regulations, students who turn age 11 during this school year (Aug 2022- May 2023) are NOT eligible to join the Explore team.

RESTAURANT NIGHTS

The Restaurant Nights Coordinator is responsible for scheduling and promoting our restaurant fundraising events throughout the school year.

Room Parents

The Room Parent Coordinator will work closely with other PTO Board members and VPE faculty to identify how parents can get more involved at school. The Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, training, and advising the parent volunteers who serve as Classroom Room Parents. The Coordinator shall act as a liaison between Room Parents, PTO, and VPE Faculty. 

School Supplies

The School Supplies Coordinator works with an outside vendor to organize school supply pre-sales starting at the end of the school year for the following school year. The Coordinator also manages the distribution of the supply kits at the beginning of the school year.

SPIRIT WEAR

The Spirit Wear Coordinator is responsible for working with vendors to provide quality spirit wear items to the VPE community. The Coordinator will also promote and manage the sale and distribution of spirit wear throughout the year.

Staff Appreciation

The Staff Appreciation Coordinator is responsible for the very important job of making sure we show our VPE staff and teachers how much we love, value, and appreciate the work they do for our children day-in and day-out. The Coordinator will shower our faculty with catered lunches, welcome back events, thank you notes, and the ever important stocked staff restroom! 

S.T.E.A.M. NIGHT

The STEAM Night Coordinator is responsible for planning and running the annual STEAM Night event for the VPE Community. The Coordinator will work with BV North high school students, and/or other community organizations, to bring a variety of STEAM activities to school.

Summer Reading Program

Keep students engaged in reading over the summer! The Summer Reading Coordinator is responsible for promoting the Summer Reading Program which encourages students to keep track of the minutes they spend reading over summer break. The Coordinator is also responsible for collecting reading logs, printing certificates, and distributing prizes in the fall.

Website & Communications

The Website & Communications Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the PTO website and CMS. The Coordinator will work closely with all PTO Board members to gather and disseminate PTO news and information to all members of the VPE Community. 

Yearbook

The Yearbook Coordinator is responsible for collecting pictures taken by teachers and parents throughout the year, designing the school yearbook, and sending it to the printers. The Coordinator is also responsible for promoting sales and the distribution of the final product at the end of the year.
